The zero-emission Bionic-Arch, currently at the design stages, is the centre-piece of a Taiwanese project to redevelop the former site of the Taichung Airport in Taiwan, after it was relocated. City planners aim to create "a vibrant oasis" showcasing the latest in green technology and focusing on sustainable, symbiotic strategies.
The Bionic-Arch by Vincent Callebaut Architects, will be 100% self-sufficient with CO2 zero-emission (LEED Diamond certification). It will contain vertical forests and landscaping as well living facades on the walls and elevated gardens. It produces both sun and wind energy as well as using botanical and bio-technologies to provide power for the the buidling's residents.
